About Us
More than just a store — an active part of the queer community in Leeds since 2019.
We're proud to be more than just a store; The Bookish Type is an active part of the queer community in Leeds, and we have been since we were founded in 2019! Back then, we were a touring market stall bringing LGBTQIA+ books to fairs and markets around Yorkshire.
Now we've got our own store, and it's the only bookshop in the whole of England to be owned by a trans woman! We champion queer literature, zines and the people who love them — and we'd love for you to come and visit.
Our Journey
Founded as a touring market stall bringing LGBTQIA+ books to fairs and markets around Yorkshire.
Opened our first permanent pop-up, building a loyal community of readers in Leeds.
Moved into our current home at 77a Great George Street — a proper shop on the high street.
The only bookshop in the whole of England to be owned by a trans woman, and a hub for the queer community.
